What we are looking for
As a Senior Application Security Engineer, you will have a broad scope within this position. You will be tasked with the implementation and scaling of the traditional AppSec model of finding vulnerabilities manually, to then employing fully automated and autonomous systems.
In this position, you will frequently perform gap analysis to identify opportunities to introduce automation. From there, you will design, build and deploy bespoke automation to facilitate the automatic discovery, remediation and regression testing of common security vulnerabilities across Mara’s application.
You will work to develop multi-year roadmaps to tackle complex security problems that require large architectural product or infrastructure changes. You will also identify and integrate with high-quality security-vendor products.
What does the job involve
- Provide technical leadership and direction in the Application Security domain
- Develop multi-year roadmaps to solve complex security challenges company wide
- Design, build and deploy automation to scale the discovery of security bugs across the Mara application
- Identify attacks and security weaknesses in the Mara application and implement systems to automate their discovery
- Provide security guidance to Mara’s technology teams
- Guide and mentor junior level engineers

Qualifications
- An in depth appreciation of the AppSec model
- A thorough understanding of authentication and authorization standards
- A proven track record of successfully introducing automated systems to discover, remediate and regression test common security vulnerabilities in applications and services
- A past history of successful instance responses and security audits
- Detailed understanding of encryption standards
- An exceptional understanding and previous experience implementing penetration tests
- Expertise in developing and driving complex, multi-year project roadmaps to address company-wide security challenges
- Programming skills in at least one coding language
- Expertise in the domains of security architecture and engineering, in addition to software development security
- A passion for technology and a keen interest in new tech and best practice
- A background in financial services will be advantageous, particularly in crypto and blockchain protocols
- Past experience at a high growth startup with a headcount of 50 – 200 will be beneficial
